This was a fun project. I contacted a friend of mine that donated two smaller spools to my program.

Step 1: I purchased a pre-cut wooden circle at Menards. It didn't fit the top perfectly, but it kept me from having to borrow a saw or have someone cut me a circle. I used a nail gun to put the wooden circle on the top of the spool. I did this because the spools have holes in the top and I didn’t want small toys to fall down inside)

Step 2: I hot glued the twine (Purchased from Michael’s) all the way around the middle tube. I continued this until it was covered.

Step 3: Stain all the wooden surfaces.

Step 4: Brush on two coats of polyurethane.

Step 5: Since my circle didn’t cover the entire top, I hot glue a piece of twine around the edges (just because it looked better and gave it a nicer finish)

Tip: You could do the stain and polyurethane before doing the twine.
